Bookbot improves literacy in Indonesia while western publishing sits on the AI fence

The time needed to train the bot for Kiswahili will be down to 3-6 months instead of two years.


While the AI Luddite fringe decry everything AI is achieving in the publishing arena, in other parts of the world AI is making big inroads into improving reading.

Australia-based Bookbot was founded by Adrian DeWitts to improve literacy in Indonesia and saw a twofold increase in reading fluency.

Now the project has expanded to Tanzania, where developers expect the time needed to train the bot for Kiswahili will be down to 3-6 months instead of two years, with potential to do the same in other countries.
