Even without knowing the KU and a la carte APub numbers (which we can see from ebook chart rankings will be substantial) it is patently obvious that the real value of the ebook market is significantly higher than the APA number the trade journals are reporting.

The latest APA StatShot, for April 2022, shows ebooks brought in $84.3 million in revenue for mainstream publishers reporting to the APA.

That figure does not of course include the $41 million paid out by Amazon to authors and small presses with books in the Kindle Unlimited (KU) ebook subscription service. Nor does it include monies earned by said indies for a la carte sales on Amazon, nor their sales on other platforms.

And nor does it include APub earnings, which are paid at an la carte rate quite separate from the Kindle Unlimited pot shared by the indies and small presses.

But even without knowing the KU and a la carte APub numbers (which we can see from ebook chart rankings will be substantial) it is patently obvious that the real value of the ebook market is significantly higher than the APA number the trade journals are reporting.
