I half-expected to maybe see Storytel on the Indonesia International Book Fair sponsor list, but nothing to be seen there, and so it’s pure conjecture that we might see Storytel ID launch this week, but if it is to happen this year per the announced schedule then what better time?

Time is running out for Storytel’s promised launch in Indonesia, which Storytel announced in July 2020 would happen in 2021. So far there’s no sign of a Storytel ID site on Storytel’s global home page, where often new markets show before the official launch is announced. But the Storytel Jobs page suggests all the vacancies have been filled, and per past TNPS coverage we know it’s close.

TNPS first pinpointed Indonesia as a Storytel prospect back in 2018 –

It would be July 2020 before Storytel formally announced its plans for Indonesia.

But while Storytel Indonesia Country Manager Indriani Widyasari had been busy building up excitement within the domestic publishing industry things have been, at the public level, relatively quiet.

That’s not uncommon with Storytel, which often keeps its new market powder dry until the last minute, but given the early announcement of its intentions in Indonesia it begs the question now whether or not the 2021 launch of Storytel ID will happen this year.

If it does, this coming week is a likely candidate, with the Indonesia International Book Fair about to kick off.

This year the event is hybrid, with the in-person element carrying the slogan “It’s a Book Affair!” while the virtual element of the event carries the slogan “It’s an book e-fair”

I half-expected to maybe see Storytel on the Indonesia International Book Fair sponsor list, but nothing to be seen there, and so it’s pure conjecture that we might see Storytel ID launch this week, but if it is to happen this year per the announced schedule then what better time?

And with 212 million people online in Indonesia, what better market?
