With Sharjah the World Book Capital this year (check out this interview with Bodour Al Qasimi to find out how that came to be) the Sharjah International Book Fair promises to be even more of a extravaganza than usual.

One of the highlights will be the Sharjah International Book Awards.
The deadline for submissions is September 1, and the books must be first editions published in 2018-19
The awards categories are as follows:

1- Sharjah Award for an Emirati Book: 

  • The Best Emirati Novel Award. The prize money for this award is 100,000 AED.
    The Best Emirati Academic Book. The prize money for this award is 100,000 AED.
    The Best Emirati Creative Book Award (Drama). The prize money for this award is 50,000 AED.
    The Best Emirati Book about the UAE. The prize money for this award is 50,000 AED.

2- Sharjah Award for the Best Arabic Novel. The prize money for this award is 150,000 AED.
3- Sharjah Award for the Best International Book:

  • The Best International Fiction Book.
    The Best International Non-Fiction Book.
    The prize money for each award is 50,000 AED.

4- Sharjah Publisher Recognition Award: 

  • The Best local publisher.
    The Best Arab publisher.
    The Best international publisher.
    The prize money for each award is 25,000 AED.
