HarperCollins will be launching its catalogue on the Juggernaut app this summer as the company seeks to embrace the potential of the India digital books market.

HarperCollins publishes some of the finest and most read books in the world – and we are delighted to be selling these on our platform and working closely with this fantastic company and making publishing magic,

said Juggernaut Books’ Chiki Sarkar in a statement on the Juggernaut blog.
According to the press release HarperCollins’ Indian authors include Amitav Ghosh, Jhumpa Lahiri, Nikita Singh, Raghuram Rajan, Anuja Chauhan and Aravind Adiga.
But HarperCollins will also be bringing its big name western list to the Juggernaut app, promising Agatha Christie, Paulo Coelho, Cecelia Ahern, George R.R. Martin, Satya Nadella and Mark Manson.
Said Ananth Padmanabhan, CEO, HarperCollins India,

The Juggernaut app is growing strongly and is looking at new, inventive ways to reach out to readers and we are excited to be associating with them. We look forward to finding more readers and fans on this platform.

The India ebook market is very much in its infancy, but has enormous potential, and this strikes me as an exceptionally smart move by HarperCollins, getting its catalogue on to the app of India’s most innovative publisher, reducing its reliance on Kindle India for ebook sales (Google Play and Kobo are there, but not yet serious players).
While Juggernaut has previously attracted smaller publishers from outside India in the hope of finding a receptive Indian audience (Australia’s Black Inc., for example), this is the first time a major publisher has come on board with Juggernaut.
Chiki Sarkar previously led the India arm of Penguin Random House, so is no stranger to the bigger publishers’ machinations.
No sign yet that PRH will be introducing its titles to the Juggernaut catalogue
