The Kanz Al Jeel Award is part of the broader efforts by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre to promote Arabic literature and culture.
Submissions are open for the fourth edition of the Kanz Al Jeel Award, with nominations accepted until 31st May 2025, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) has announced.
Celebrating Arab Cultural Heritage
Since its launch in 2021, the Kanz Al Jeel Award has become a pivotal cultural event, contributing to the preservation and revival of Arab cultural heritage.
Objectives and Impact
The Kanz Al Jeel Award plays a crucial role in promoting the Arabic language and supporting various forms of creative expression, including writing and translation, on a global stage. The fourth incarnation builds on the success of previous instalments, continuing efforts to recognise creative works and restore the prominence of Nabati poetry, arts, and related studies.
Mission and Values
The award is inspired by the poems of Sheikh Zayed, which highlight poetry as a mirror of Emirati and Arab society. It honours outstanding contributions in Nabati poetry, a fundamental element of Arab identity, and promotes distinguished works in the field. It also preserves folklore and traditional arts, strengthening the younger generation’s connection to their cultural heritage.
Eligibility and Submission Criteria
Candidates must actively contribute to enriching and developing local and Arab poetic, critical, or artistic movements. Submitted works must demonstrate authenticity and innovation and should be a significant addition to human culture and knowledge.
Submissions must be written in Arabic, except for the Translation and Studies & Research categories, where translations from Arabic into other languages or studies written in other languages are accepted.
Additionally, submitted works must have been published within the past five years and have an International Standard Book Number (ISBN).
The Kanz Al Jeel Award is part of the broader efforts by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre to promote Arabic literature and culture. The ALC is dedicated to supporting the Arabic language through various initiatives, including literary events, educational programmes, and international collaborations.
