As the Chennai Book Fair concludes, the Chennai International Book Fair readies to launch.


On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi presented prestigious awards at the Chennai Book Fair, held at YMCA grounds in Nandanam.

The event highlighted the Muthamizharignar Kalaignar M Karunanidhi Porkizhi awards alongside the Booksellers’ and Publishers’ Association of South India (BAPASI) awards.

Notable Winners

M Karunanidhi Golden Award: Recipients included Arunan (prose/research), Nellai Jayantha (poetry), Suresh Kumar Indrajith (novel), N Sriram (short stories), Kalai Rani (drama), and Nirmalya (translation), each awarded Rs 1 lakh.

BAPASI Awards: Best Publisher – Karpagam Bookstore (Semmal K Kanathi), Best Librarian – R Kothandaraman, Best Bookseller – Semmal S Meiyappan.

Children’s Poet Azhava Valliyappa Award: Jyothi Sundaresan (Best Children’s Writer).

Bari Chellappanar Award: Saba Arunachalam (Tamil Scholar).

First Woman Publisher Amsaveni Periyannan Award: Parveen Sultana.

The ceremony celebrated contributions across literary genres and the broader publishing industry.

Chennai International Book Fair

The 48th Chennai Book Fair started 27 December 2024 and finishes 12 January 2025.

The 3rd Chennai International Book Fair runs 16-18 January at the Chennai Trade Centre.
