Renowned Indian author and Padma Shri awardee Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi has been honoured with the prestigious Asom Prakashan Parishad Literary Award-2024 for his exceptional literary work, “Dhar Aru Anyanya Galpo”. This accolade, presented by the Publication Board Assam earlier today (31 December, recognises Thongchi’s outstanding contribution to Indian literature.

5 Lakh Rupees, an Angabastra and a Bundle of Books

The award comprises a prize of 5 lakh rupees (₹500,000 – over $5,000), along with a citation, an ‘anga bastra’ (traditional Assamese shawl), and a “bundle of books”, per Pramod Kalita, Secretary of the Publication Board Assam, in a press statement.

The publisher of Thongchi’s book, Bonlata, has been awarded the Asom Prakashan Parishad Prakashak (Publisher) Award.

Numerous Accolades

Thongchi’s works have garnered numerous accolades over the years. In 2005, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel “Mouna Outh Mukhar Hriday” (Silent Lip Murmuring Heart). His other significant honours include the Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Literary Award from the Asom Sahitya Sabha in 2001 and the Sukapha Award from the Assam government in 2021. Additionally, Thongchi was conferred the Assam Valley Literary Award by the Williamson Megor Educational Trust in 2017 and the Bhasha Bharati Award from the Central Institute of Indian Languages in 2005.
