The 170,000 visitor turnout, while impressive for a regional fair, is dwarfed by the Jeddah book fair’s typical 500,000 visitor count, while the main event of the year, the Riyadh International Book Fair, routinely attracts more than one million visitors each year.
The Madinah Book Fair is the third largest publishing fair in Saudi Arabia, and this year ended August 5 at the King Salman International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
With over 300 publishing houses across 200 pavilions, and thanks to dates that coincided with school holidays, the event saw a 22% increase in footfall this year.
Per past TNPS coverage, the 3rd Madinah Fair is also the third of the national book fairs that form part of the Saudi strategic “Book Fairs” initiative, which aims to “empower the publishing industry, enhance cognitive and cultural awareness, improve quality of life, and contribute to national economic growth in line with Saudi Vision 2030.”
