Maybe it wasn’t such a good six months after all.

UK sees “best-ever” half-year print revenues, but don’t get too excited. By volume sales were down 4.2%,with a drop of 3.8 million unit sales.

And if we take the Prince Harry Spare outlier out of the equation then maybe it wasn’t such a good six months after all.

Reporting for The Bookseller, Tom Tivnan notes:

“The record 2023 TCM (Total Consumer Market) value haul has been achieved by Britons paying 46p ($0.51) more per book than last year. Average selling price is at its highest-ever mark (£8.87) ($11.39) in the first half-year, while discounting—with recommended retail prices reduced by around 23%, on average—is at its slimmest point in 19 years.”
