June 29 through July 9 will see BIG BAD WOLF BOOKS [BBW BOOKS] at Bandung running a 9AM-midnight mega book sale in the second of six planned Indonesia city tours for 2023.

Styled an international book festival, Big Bad Wolf Bandung will have the usual array of English-language books interspersed with books from local publishers.

The five scheduled stops for 2023 are Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Balikpapan, with the 6th city “a surprise additional tour stop”.

Historically Indonesia has proven one of Big Bad Wolf’s most exciting markets. In pre-Pandemic days Jakarta held the record for the largest single event, with 5.5 million books – mostly English-language – being taken to the Indonesia capital in 2018.

In the post-Pandemic “New Normal”, Big Bad Wolf had downsized in-person expectations, at least for now, but manages to run parallel online sales operations.

Potentially Big Bad Wolf might revisit 14 of its 15 established markets this year (political unrest in Myanmar means we are unlikely to see a return there any time soon), plus new markets are expected.

In each case English-language books will be a central plank of the event, alongside an increasing involvement of local publishers in each country.
