Currently in seven markets (Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Netherlands), Nextory has an imminent lunch in Norway, and unspecified launches planned in other European countries this year.

As is standard for Sweden-based Nextory, there’s no real numbers to tell us just how the subscription service is faring compared with rivals Storytel and BookBeat, but the trends are consistent.

In a very brief press release this week Nextory CEO Shadi Bitar reports 61% subscriber growth in Q1 2021 compared with 2020, adding:

In terms of new users, we have had the best start ever in a new year. Now we are very much looking forward to our upcoming launch in Norway with the largest selection of Norwegian books gathered in one app. The plan is also to launch in several new countries in 2021.

Currently in seven markets (Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Netherlands(, Nextory has an imminent lunch in Norway, and unspecified launches planned in other European countries this year.

Per the press release,

The latest launch in the Netherlands has so far been the most successful for the company. All goals have been exceeded during the first four months and this without Nextory even having had the opportunity to visit the country.

Nextory also reports that subscriber numbers in Finland doubled in 2020.

In late 2020 Nextory picked up $20 million in new funding, on top of a $6 cash injection in March 2020.
