A platform for printed matter by artists, writers, scholars, and independent and established publishers from the Middle East, as well as Africa and South Asia.

Set to run December 16-19, the UAE’s Sharjah Art Foundation art book fair Focal Point will have its third incarnation as,

a platform for printed matter by artists, writers, scholars, and independent and established publishers from the Middle East, as well as Africa and South Asia.

Printed matter? Hold that thought. In fact last year’s recipient of the $30,000 grant to bolster scholarly research went to the online music magazine Ma3azef, which is dedicated to the critique and analysis of contemporary Arabic music.

The Focal Point publishing grant, which will be awarded on the first day of the fair, is for historical research projects that centre on the Middle East, Africa and South Asia regions. The 2020 edition focuses on projects that look at global modernism movements in the region during the post-war period, follow the First World War.

Focal Point will also feature an SAF Publications section, dedicated to the books produced by the foundation over the years.
