At the International Children’s Book Fair in Bologna this week the 12 nominations for the Nordic Council’s Children’s & Young People’s Literature Prize were announced.

The winner will pocket DKK 350,000 ($58,000) on October 30th at a special ceremony at the Oslo Opera House.
The Nordic Council awards a total of five prizes each year – for literature, film, music, the environment, and children’s and young people’s literature. The children’s literature award was only introduced in 2013.
The Nordic Council region encompasses Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands, as well as Åland and the Sami language area.
Åland is a small Swedish-speaking archipelago in the Baltic Sea that is politically part of Finland.
The Sami language area is those parts of Russia, Norway, Sweden and Finland where the Sami languages are spoken.
