It’s only a whisper right now, but the TNPS prediction back in May that Storytel has Brazil in its sights for 2019 now has a little more substance.
Back in May TNPS was the first English-language industry journal to break the news that Storytel had been in talks with Brazilian publishers, along with those in Argentina, Mexico and Colombia –

and the following month TNPS was able to confirm the story, that Storytel would be launching in Mexico in December.

Now comes a hint that the TNPS expectations for a Storytel Brazil launch in 2019 are spot on. Brazil’s industry journal PublishNews alludes fleetingly today to a report in Brazil’s Folha S. Paulo that Storytel Brazil is going ahead.
The Folha S. Paulo post is behind a paywall and I’ve yet to gather any further information, but watch this space. Jonas Tellander takes the Amazon approach towards company plans and doesn’t comment until there’s an official announcement to be made, which is clearly a long way off, so no point asking there.
As and when the Storytel Brazil launch happens it will mean Storytel will have operations in 16 countries – Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain, India, United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Italy, with launches in Bulgaria and Mexico due before the year is over, and Brazil the first of probably several for 2019.
