The 40th Feria Internacional del Libro del Palacio de Minería wound up earlier this week, and provides another example of the myriad book fairs around the world that attract booklovers that spend money on books outside the traditional bookselling infrastructure of book stores and online stores.

Book sales that therefore rarely get noticed by the stats counters that tell us how big the national and international book markets are.

The Feria Internacional del Libro del Palacio de Minería, conveniently known simply as FILPM, held its 40th incarnation 21 February through 4 March and the final visitor count was 144,680, attracted by the 1385 events held during the fair, supported by 411 publishers and booksellers.
There’s no breakdown as yet of total sales at FILPM, but Ricardo Marcos González, President of the Council for Culture and the Arts of guest state Nuevo León said that his entourage alone sold books to the value of 250,000 Mexican pesos ($13,000).
I’ll update this post with full sales if and when the numbers are made available.
The next Feria Internacional del Libro del Palacio de Minería will run 20 February through 2 March 2020 and the guest of honour will be the State of Colima.
