it would be fascinating to know how the DIWP workshops handle the AI angle, which simultaneously gives lazier writers the chance to coast, and gives serious writers the opportunity to take their art to new levels.

The Dubai International Program for Writing, an initiative by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), has introduced two innovative workshops, ‘Scientific Translation’ and ‘Scientific Article’, at the Cairo International Book Fair.

The fair, which is widely expected to exceed 4.7 million visitors this year, has been hosting participants from around the world, but of course the neighbouring Arab states have been especially prominent.

Workshop Aims

The Dubai International Program for Writing (DIWP) workshops aim to support and nurture exceptional young talents, enhancing their writing skills to foster the next generation of researchers and innovators in the Arab world.

‘Scientific Article’ Workshop

Designed for journalism and media professionals specialising in scientific articles, this workshop trains young journalists in environmental and scientific topics. It equips participants with fundamental language and research skills to write comprehensive articles across various subjects, including technology, medical sciences, and space sciences.

If anyone has been lucky enough to attend, I’d be keen to know how the workshop introduced the potential AI brings to the table in this field.

‘Scientific Translation’ Workshop

This workshop focuses on specialised scientific translation, training participants alongside experts and professional trainers. It enhances their skills to translate books and create scientific content in Arabic, making it accessible to researchers, students, enthusiasts, and research centres.

Again, it would be fascinating to know how the DIWP workshops handle the AI angle, which simultaneously gives lazier writers the chance to coast, and gives serious writers the opportunity to take their art to new levels.

As I write this post, the Cairo event has two days to go. Stay tuned for further coverage of the world’s biggest book fair.
