It’s not at all clear from the report why a huge pile of books was strewn on the roadside or why they were being bulldozed into trucks.
Morocco – In Casablanca a video has gone viral showing a bulldozer dumping tons of used books into the back of a truck, raising concerns among Casablanca residents about the future of “Labhira,” the city’s most famous used book market.
Morocco News reports conflicting views about the real story behind the video clip, viewable here on twiXter.
“What happened recently on social media concerning Labhira raised concerns about the demeaning way those books were removed,” Lahsen Fekhar, one of the book sellers in the market, told the local press.
So far, the book vendors are continuing to to carry out their commercial activities, and it’s not at all clear from the report why a huge pile of books was strewn on the roadside or why they were being bulldozed into trucks.
“Whatever the case is, regardless of the fact that the process was done in a wrong way, the man in charge of removing the books could have done so in a respectful manner,” Lahsen Fekhar noted.
Earlier this year the Rabat International Book Fair, which for a long time was run from Casablanca, drew 240,000 visitors.
