Not to be confused with the inaugural Sharjah Festival of African Literature, the Emirate of Sharjah is set to launch the inaugural Sharjah Literature Festival (SLF) to run 17-21 January, under the slogan “Emirati Tales Inspire the Future.”

The festival is jointly organised by the Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) and the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA),, running 4PM-11PM and per the press release will showcase the UAE’s rich literary heritage and provides a platform for visitors to engage with prominent Emirati writers, thinkers, and publishers.

The Essence of Words: A discussion on modern Emirati literature and its role in shaping national identity.
Sand Tales: Examining the transformation of Emirati stories into globally recognized works.
Tales of the Past: Exploring the significance of historical fiction.
Echoes of Poetry: A poetry evening celebrating cross-border works.
Focus on Emirati Literature
The festival’s second day highlights include sessions on poetry, children’s literature, and the portrayal of the Emirates through different cultural lenses. Discussions will emphasize the importance of Emirati literature in fostering national and creative values.
Exploring Diverse Genres
Subsequent days will feature sessions on autobiography, historical eras, sea and land stories, mystery and crime literature, and Emirati fantasy worlds. Notable events include discussions on the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language and a piano concert by Iman Al Hashemi.
Engaging Discussions
The final day will host discussions on the role of articles in cultural and social discourse, the impact of science fiction, and the culture industry’s significance in the creative economy.
Book Fair and Activities
Throughout the festival, a book fair will showcase the latest Emirati publications. A corner dedicated to various activities and food experiences will enrich the festival atmosphere, blending intellectual exchange, creativity, and entertainment.
