Among the usual highlights is a one-off event celebrating the Year of the Camel (in fact the Year of the Camelids, so alpacas , lamas and vicunas too, but guessing there aren’t too many of those on the Peninsula).
The Jeddah Book Fair has officially opened at the Jeddah Superdome (since Thursday) and will run until December 21. Organised by the Saudi Authority for Literature, Publishing, and Translation, the fair brings together over 1,000 publishing houses and agencies from 22 countries, spread across 450 pavilions.
Among the usual highlights is a one-off event celebrating the Year of the Camel (in fact the Year of the Camelids, so alpacas , lamas and vicunas too, but guessing there aren’t too many of those on the Peninsula).
Other highlights include the Cultural Program, featuring over 100 activities, including lectures, workshops, and seminars led by more than 170 experts; the Interactive Area for Children, offering 40 unique activities focused on writing, storytelling, theatre, and animation: Manga Corner, a dedicated space for graphic storytelling enthusiasts; the Saudi Authors Pavilion, showcasing the latest publications by Saudi writers, and the Discounted Book Area.
Previous incarnations have attracted thousands of visitors, with the 2023 fair drawing an estimated 50,000 attendees over its duration.
The Jeddah Fair is the final of the three big Saudi literature events each year, and second in size to the Riyadh International Book Fair, which routinely pulls in one million visitors.
