Moldova is now an independent country neighbouring Romania in the east, or a region within Romania in the west, which sounds like recipe for unrest and conflict, but historic and cultural ties seem so far to be producing a very peaceful and productive coexistence, epitomised by Bookfest Chisinau, organised under the patronage of Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis and Moldova’s President Maia Sandu.
Funded by the Romanian Government’s Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova and organised in partnership with the Ministries of Culture of Romania and Moldova, Bookfest Chisnau is the only one of the Bookfest annual book fairs that takes place outside the country, in neighbouring Moldova.
There’s some fascinating history behind that, for those interested in east European history, but suffice here to say Moldova is now an independent country neighbouring Romania in the east, or a region within Romania in the west, which sounds like recipe for unrest and conflict, but historic and cultural ties seem so far to be producing a very peaceful and productive coexistence, epitomised by Bookfest Chisinau, organised under the patronage of Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis and Moldova’s President Maia Sandu.
What follows is a very brief summary of the plan for the event. Below the summary is a link to IPN where there is a lot more detail that I’d love to expand on, but I need to get this post live before the West African electricity gods decide to plunge us into darkness again.
