Short-video platforms became the second-largest book sales channel, following e-commerce platforms.
Publishers Association of China and the Book and Periodicals Distribution Association of China issued a report on the 2023 book market this past weekend, with bad news for bricks & mortar stores.
Total retail ended the year up 4/72% for a total USD equivalent value of $12.84 billion
Per the report, “short-video platforms became the second-largest book sales channel, following e-commerce platforms, and bookstore sales continued a downward trend.”
180,000 new titles were published in 2023, up 7.3% on the previous year.
