Past editions of the Kuwait International Book Fair have been overshadowed by concerns about censorship, but so far I’ve not seen that red flag being raised this year. Fingers crossed on that one.

Per the Kuwait Times, “In collaboration with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Kuwait International Book Fair takes on a social cause, proposing all Arab publishing houses to allocate 3 percent of their sales profit to Gaza. Non-profit organizations are also participating and supporting this cause.”

There are 29 countries present at this year’s event, with 486 publishing houses showcasing their wares.

With a typical attendance of 300,000, the Kuwait International Book Fair is usually described as the country’s biggest event, and hopefully the 2023 incarnation will be no exception.
