The Silent Book Club is now global phenomena.


Baca Bareng – Reading Together – involves people gathering together to sit for an hour silently reading their own books. Organised by the Indonesian Silent Book Club, founded by Hestia Istivianie, these monthly gathering have been taking place in Jakarta since summer 2019.

Not that this is unique to Indonesia. In fact the movement began back in 2012 in the US, and now has more than 300 chapters around the world, including in countries like Australia, Germany, Japan, India, South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
