Disappointing for the organisers, perhaps, but bear in mind that would be a top-level achievement for the Frankfurt Book Fair, to nothing to be sneezed at.

TNPS has resumed its book fair tracking this year, as we say goodbye to the worst of the pandemic, and overall the trend is for a strong – and sometimes record-breaking – footfall count.

But bucking the trend this year, come the results from the Muscat International Book Fair in Oman, which in 2019 and 2018 set a new record of one million visitors each time.

In 2020 as the Pandemic began to ravage to world, that fell to 706,000 visitors, but it seems not all Omanis are ready to return, with the 2023 incarnation reporting a final footfall count of “only” 385,000.

Disappointing for the organisers, perhaps, but bear in mind that would be a top-level achievement for the Frankfurt Book Fair, so nothing to be sneezed at.

The news on the Muscat book fair count is just breaking. I’ll update this post if further detail becomes available.
