Publishers have warned some firms are being driven to “the brink of collapse” by ongoing issues with distributor Orca Book Services almost a year after concerns were first raised.


Lauren Brown, reporting for The Bookseller, paints a dismal picture of a US-owned UK distributor, Orca, wreaking havoc with UK publishers that entrusted their titles to the company.

Brown writes:

Publishers have warned some firms are being driven to “the brink of collapse” by ongoing issues with distributor Orca Book Services almost a year after concerns were first raised.

According to several publishers, poor communication from the US-based Independent Publishers Group (IPG) which took over Orca last October, failure to recoup stock and a resulting loss of trust among trade customers have resulted in hundreds of thousands of pounds in losses.
