Given Youboox was acquired by Sweden-based Nextory in October it seems a safe bet we will see this innovation appearing across Nextory platforms in 2022.
Via a partnership with Fyctia, with sound courtesy of Wave Audio, the Swedish-owned French digital books streaming service Youboox has taken the option to switch between audiobook and ebook to a new level – so much so it is claiming it to be a new format – called simply “Switch”.
For now there are just eight exclusive Switch originals, taking the form of five 20-minute episodes, with a full immersive experience of voice, sound effects and music.

Of course there are already devices out there that can switch between audio and text to suit the consumer’s needs, and there are apps out there that offer immersive multi-sensual audio, and there are apps out there offering short-form and serialised audio and short stories.
Just how the new Switch offering by Youboox will be received remains to be seen.
But given Youboox was acquired by Sweden-based Nextory in October –
it seems a safe bet we will see this innovation appearing across Nextory platforms in 2022.
