The National Centre for Distance Learning (CNED) and telco Orange have partnered to ensure availability of educational ebooks for students in the francophone West African countries of Mali, Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
Pre-launch the project already has 29,000 students signed up to receive content “in ebook format” through the MondoCNED app, that can be consumed online or downloaded.

The announcement was made earlier this month in the Senegalese capital Dakar during the Global Partnership for Education Summit.
Bruno Mettling, CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa said,

This signing with CNED confirms the Orange Group’s commitment to this great ambition of access to digital education for all.

The Orange press release adds that,

other partners will in turn offer educational content to Orange’s customers, particularly French thematic digital universities, French-speaking universities and African universities that are already producing their own digital educational resources.

The project is already up and running with Orange and CNED in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and will extend to other francophone nations in due course.
Orange has operations in nineteen countries in Africa.
