In the global digital library stakes OverDrive may be the biggest player, but it has lots of challengers, and high among them comes ODILO, a company that began life in Spain and today has 143 million readers across 43 countries, drawing on a 2 million strong catalogue from over 5,000 publishers.
This week comes news ODILO has won the contract to supply the Dutch national digital library system.
Hans Pleysier, Project Manager of the National Library of the Netherlands, explained in a press release:
We are pleased to have chosen ODILO as a key strategic partner to develop an optimized digital library experience for all users of our system. We have been pleasantly surprised by the excellence in functionality, already developed and tested, the good level of service and the Optimum user experience that the Dutch will have once our new library comes into operation.
For ODILO, CEO Rodrigo Rodríguez said,
We are very excited to have won such a demanding international public tender by presenting our new ODILO 3.0 technology; this project will bring Dutch consumers an experience of digital consumption at the level of the best consumer platforms.
ODILO makes much of its “Netflix for Learning” reputation, asserting in the press release that it has,
designed its technology to adapt to the needs of users of all learning abilities and in all parts of the world to ensure learning without any barriers.
With 16.3 million people online in a population of 17.1 million, the Netherlands looks to be an exciting prospect for ODILO.
