With the 2018 Nigeria International Book Fair set to kick off in Lagos next week (May 7-12), the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Lagos State Chapter, will be hosting a literary and reading event for writers called Authors’ Groove.

Reports PM Parrot:

The theme for this year’s Authors’ Groove is “Literary Agency and the Improvement of Authors’ Craft and Business.” The guest lecturer (will be) Dr. Lola Akande … author of the novels Where Are You From, What It Takes and Camouflage.

PM Parrot tells us,

The book fair organized by Nigeria Book Fair Trust of which ANA is a Council member and one of the constituent bodies will also have ANA maintaining an exhibition stand throughout the duration of the fair (7-12 May, 2018) where it will hold a daily literary clinic for the benefit of aspiring authors and members.

The Nigerian International Book Fair (NIBF) website claims Nigeria is Africa’s biggest book market.

The 2018 NIBF will be attended by publishers from the USA, UK, Singapore, India, Turkey, Malaysia, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal and Botswana among others. While not mentioned I’d be very surprised if China and the UAE are not present too.

NIBF Trust Executive Secretary Abiodun Omotubi, reports Nigeria’s Guardian, said that International Publishers Association members

will converge in Nigeria during this year’s event to have a workshop and gala night. This will not only boost the foreign participation at NIBF 2018, it will also open business opportunities for the stakeholders within the Nigerian book industry.

The NIBF theme for 2018 will be,

Networking – A sustainable vehicle for dynamism and survival of book business in Africa,

reflecting that, unlike most book fairs in North Africa, the NIBF will be a trade-focussed event.
