Abu Dhabi International Book Fair oversubscribed by 100 publishers as the Arab Renaissance blossoms

The 29th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which runs April 24-30 this year, has had to turn away over 100 publishers this year as demand massively exceeded available space at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

This despite fierce competition from the annual Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival and the once in a lifetime celebrations as Sharjah becomes the UNESCO World Book Capital.

In Abu Dhabi there will be, alongside 115 Emirati publishing houses, thirty publishers from India taking part, as India is the guest of honour.

In total over 1,000 exhibitors from 50 countries will be at Abu Dhabi this year, with 500,000 books available. The book fair, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, typically receives around 300,000 visitors.

Ukraine, Czech Republic, Estonia, Malta and Portugal will be participating for the first time as international interest grows in the blossoming Arab book market.

The 2019 incarnation of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair will again have the E-Zone, Comic Corner and the Entertainment Zone.
