Deadline is March 31.
The Mediterranea Publishing Fellowship (MPF) has launched applications for its third edition, scheduled to take place in Cagliari, Sardinia from 1–3 September 2026.
Programme Overview
Unlike conventional book fairs, MPF prioritises deep cultural understanding as the foundation for meaningful editorial relationships, combining academic sessions with facilitated networking and territorial exploration.
The Fellowship brings together ten international publishing professionals for three intensive days of cultural immersion and professional development.
What’s Included
Selected fellows receive comprehensive support covering economy return travel, up to four nights’ accommodation, and all programme activities. The curated experience is designed to remove financial barriers and enable full participation from diverse international markets.
Selection Criteria
The programme seeks ten publishers worldwide working across all areas of publishing – from literary fiction and poetry to non-fiction, illustrated books, and children’s literature. Candidates are evaluated on their potential to contribute to and benefit from Mediterranean cultural exchange, with selection decisions communicated by 20 April 2026.
Application Timeline
Publishing professionals have until 31 March 2026 to submit applications. The review process is thorough, with every application receiving careful consideration, though individual feedback cannot be provided to unsuccessful candidates.
The View From The Beach
Developed by Sardinian publisher Ischìre in collaboration with the University of Cagliari and supported by municipal authorities, the Fellowship has established itself as a unique laboratory of understanding within the Mediterranean publishing ecosystem.
Previous editions have attracted participants from Canada, Greece, Armenia, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Uruguay, UK, Italy, and Spain, creating a network that unites academia, professionals, and institutions.
Focus Country Model
The programme continues its Focus Country concept, which debuted in 2025 with Malta as the inaugural selection. This model provides intensive spotlighting of one nation’s literary landscape through dedicated delegations, curated catalogues, and specialised workshops on translation funding and rights navigation.
A reminder the applications deadline is March 31.
