Fully one third of all books consumed in Iceland are audiobooks.

97,829 books sold at any book fair would be considered impressive, but in Iceland, that amounts to one in four of the population. Not so surprising given Icelanders read or listen to an average of 2.4 books per month, with one third of the population reading or listening to books on a daily basis.

And reading/listening is on the increase. The average number of books read per month had risen between 2021 and 2022, reports Jelena Ćirić in Iceland Review.

Stressing listening is important here because fully one third of all books consumed in Iceland are audiobooks.

Storytel must be laughing all the way to the bank!
