The combination of substantial public attendance and professional programming creates unique opportunities for brand-building alongside direct sales.
The Foire du Livre de Bruxelles stands as one of Europe’s most substantial literary gatherings, drawing publishing professionals, authors, and readers to the Belgian capital each spring.
The 54th edition welcomed 80,000 visitors across four days at the historic Tour & Taxis venue. The fair now looks ahead to its 55th edition, scheduled for 26–29 March, under the compelling theme “Challenging the Future” (Défier l’avenir).
Scale and Professional Reach
For publishing professionals, the fair offers substantial commercial and networking opportunities. Over 500 exhibitors and publishers, alongside 1,200 authors will be participating in programmed events.
A Strategic Venue: Tour & Taxis
The fair’s relocation to Tour & Taxis, a magnificently redeveloped industrial complex in Brussels’ harbour district, has provided the event with architectural distinction and expanded capacity. This heritage site offers professionals an atmospheric setting for rights discussions, author meetings, and commercial negotiations away from the bustle of the main exhibition floors.
Programming Depth: Beyond the Trade Floor
The Brussels Book Fair distinguishes itself through ambitious programming. The 2025 edition centred on “Habiter le monde” (Inhabiting the World), addressing ecology, migration, and cultural diversity through nearly 300 activities. The 2026 theme, “Challenging the Future,” suggests a continued commitment to forward-looking, socially engaged discourse.
Graphic literature receives particular emphasis. The 2025 fair featured a dedicated BD Stage (Scène BD) and the expanded Quartier Manga, reflecting the robust health of bande dessinée and manga markets in Francophone Europe.
German-language literature has also enjoyed prominent positioning, with Daniel Kehlmann and Bernhard Schlink among recent featured authors.
International Dimensions
The fair maintains strong international connections. The European Union served as guest of honour in 2024 during Belgium’s EU presidency, with the Place de l’Europe hosting discussions on literary translation, publishing careers, and the EU Prize for Literature. Luxembourg’s publishing sector has also utilised the fair for international visibility.
The View From The Beach
For rights managers and international sales teams, the Brussels Book Fair offers concentrated access to the Benelux Francophone market. The fair’s timing in late March positions it strategically between the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (April) and just finished London Book Fair, allowing professionals to maximise European travel efficiency.
The combination of substantial public attendance and professional programming creates unique opportunities for brand-building alongside direct sales. Publishers report strong engagement at author events, which generate significant media coverage across Belgian television, radio, and press.
