Quinn has sold over 1.2 million books in Sweden alone – not bad for a country of only 10.5 million people.
The Gothenburg Book Fair has announced its first guest for its 2025 incarnation in September: Bridgerton series author Julia Quinn.
Hugely Popular In Sweden
Perhaps best known globally today for the Netflix adaptation of her books, Quinn has sold over 1.2 million books in Sweden alone – not bad for a country of only 10.5 million people. In fact, in terms of population size, Sweden is among the countries where Quinn has sold the most books per capita.
Publishing Director’s Statement
Ebba Östberg, Julia Quinn’s Swedish publisher and Publishing Director at Bokförlaget Forum, Bonnier Fakta and Lovereads, said in a press release: “We are incredibly proud to welcome one of the world’s leading romance authors to Gothenburg and the Book Fair! Julia Quinn is not just a legend in the genre; she has also been a passionate advocate for romance fiction and its rightful place in literature since day one. The fact that she will finally meet her many Swedish readers is truly special.”
Romance and the Theme of Love and Desire
Oskar Ekström, Program Director at the Gothenburg Book Fair, highlighted the significance of this year’s theme: “This is why it is especially exciting to highlight romance this year, with Love and Desire as the Book Fair’s theme. Julia Quinn’s participation presents a fantastic opportunity to explore the genre and its significance. We aim to delve into the role of love and passion in literature from multiple perspectives – from relationships and psychology to society, culture and eroticism.”
NB – Depending on the translation software, the theme may be interpreted as ‘Love and Desire‘ or ‘Love and Lust‘. Either one work for me!
At the fair, Julia Quinn will participate in seminars and stage discussions, sharing insights into her writing, the Bridgerton series, and the rise of romance fiction.
Quinn’s Books In Sweden
The following series by Julia Quinn have been published in Swedish: The Rokesby Series, The Smythe-Smith Quartet, and The Bridgerton Series.
Further details about the 2025 Gothenburg Book Fair will be announced at the programme launch on 27 May.
