Penguin Random House, awaiting regulatory approval to acquire Simon & Schuster, earlier this year began pulling all its titles from unlimited subscription services. But for now at least, 36,000 ebooks and 6,000 audiobooks from the Simon & Schuster catalogue are to be available in the French digital books subscription service Youboox.
With Big 5 trade publisher Simon & Schuster likely to be part of Bertelsmann’s Penguin Random House next year (the acquisition is subject to regulatory approval in the US, which is by no means guaranteed) the latest news from France-based digital books subscription service Youboox may be short-lived. PRH earlier this year began pulling all its titles from unlimited subscription services.
But for now at least, 36,000 ebooks and 6,000 audiobooks from the Simon & Schuster catalogue will be available in the Youboox service as the French operation looks to expand its global appeal.
Youboox offers a three tier subscription, starting at € 7.99 per month for unlimited ebooks. € 9.99 gets unlimited ebooks plus one audiobook per month, while for € 11.99 it’s unlimited audiobook, one audiobook plus newspapers.
