April should have seen a glorious ceremony in the Malaysian capital as the UAE’s Sharjah handed the title of UNESCO World Book Capital to Kuala Lumpur.
For weeks now that prospect has been on hold as Malaysia’s government tightened its controls to fight the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the globe.
Today the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur has confirmed that due to the capital’s continuing Movement Control Order lockdown the ceremony will be postponed to a date yet to be decided, and a revised event will hopefully take place later this year.
