Here in West Africa we’re still struggling with the failure of the Senegal-Gambia spur of the ACE submarine cable that brings high-speed internet to the length of the western coast of Africa. Hopefully normal service will resume very soon.
Meanwhile I’m going to run this latest press release from Penguin Random House India in full without any background material and other insights that would normally company such a post.
It’s an important debate that is not likely to attract much attention outside of India, but deserves a wider audience. If the ACE cable repairs are completed before the event I’ll try come back and add to this post. Meanwhile, this is what PRH India has to say:
DR SHASHI THAROOR IN CONVERSATION WITH SUDHA MURTY AT THE PENGUIN ANNUAL LECTURE 2019
New Delhi, 3 December 2019: At the upcoming Penguin Annual Lecture, be prepared to be regaled with a captivating conversation between this year’s speaker, acclaimed author and philanthropist Sudha Murty, and well-known politician, author and master of words Dr Shashi Tharoor. Mrs Sudha Murty is delivering the lecture on the topic- Storytelling and Social Change. The Penguin Annual Lecture will be held on Wednesday, December 11 at The Imperial Hotel, Delhi. This is a free event with mandatory registrations.
For the first time, Penguin Random House India is conceptualizing a special segment where two spectacular personalities engage in a riveting dialogue about literature’s influence in driving social change. Programmed after Mrs Murty delivers the lecture, this engaging discussion will be through the lens of Mrs Murty’s philanthropic work and will focus on the inspiration that drives her altruistic passion and her many life experiences, both as humanitarian and a leading women writer in India.
For anyone lucky enough to be in New Delhi next week, you can register for the event here.
Finally a reminder here that PRH India is the country’s largest English-language trade publisher.
